How to Mod a Kids Ride on Motorcycle: Adding Rubber Tires With Speed Control
I obtained a kids ride on toy motorcycle for free for my kid. It was well used and came without a battery. After placing a 12v in it, I discovered that it ended up too fast and jerky for my kid to ride it enjoyably. So this is a video of how to modify a kids ride on bike with rubber tires and a speed control to have a smoother ride.
The rubber wheels were purchased from Harbor Freight. The speed controller is a DC motor PWM module from online. There was some electronics patchwork that I made to interface the existing motorcycle's pedal to the speed controller to turn it into a throttle.

How to Quickly Secure Any Pegboard Hook With A Paper-Clip, Keep All Pegboard Hooks From Falling Out!
Переглядів 37 тис.3 роки тому
I was really tired of pegboard hooks falling out every time I took a tool off the wall a little too quickly or at the wrong angle. After a little thought into what I could do to fix this, I came up with this quick and easy hack using paper clips. I hope this will be of good use to you and saves you much headache like it did me. Using a paper clip is the cheapest, quickest, and possibly the eas...
Making the Open Theremin From Scratch
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
A while back my nieces asked me for a theremin. It was the first I heard of such device. A theremin is an electronic musical instrument that is played without touching it. It makes retro space age like noises and tones. I decided to get them one for their birthday. Eyeing the "open theremin" as a suitable candidate I set out to buy one. At the time, they were all out of stock so I figured I cou...
My DIY Boring Company "Not A Flamethrower" Nerf Knockoff, how to make step by step

If you havent heard, Elon Musk sold "flamethrowers" to promote his Boring Company. I wanted one but didn't want to shell out 500 bucks. Especially when his "flamethrower" is essentially a torch more so than an actual flamethrower. Therefore in making my own I made my design as such to be more of a torch. This is basically an extreme Nerf gun mod. Thank you to my friend for your generosity in do...

    That was brilliant. Can this be done at a lower voltage though? Trying to think up a way of doing this on a smaller scale - likely with a fan passing air thru

    • @LockeLaboratory
      @LockeLaboratory Місяць тому

      It can be done using a static electricity generator that produces a much lower current which is much less likely to kill someone than using a microwave oven transformer but that is still high voltage. The high voltage is necessary to establish a strong enough electric field to attract particals as well as corona/ionization to charge the particles. The only low voltage means would involve mechanical filtration and heat based filtration techniques.

    GREAT video: PLEASE HELP ! ! wouldn't it operate the same if you just had a U shaped trap at the bottom of the main water exit? That would eliminate the need for a "T" ? ? Someone please help me understand why a simple U trap wouldn't do the same thing.... Thank you all in advance for the hundreds of replies I'm sure I will get to this question.😀

    • @LockeLaboratory
      @LockeLaboratory 5 місяців тому

      Great question. So a simple U shape will not work for the following reason: the water that is in the chamber would not be displaced past the opening tip of the "u". Imagine a full chamber. Water level drops as air displaces chamber but the water level drops past the entry of the "U", the only water that is displaces is the small amount within the U bend.

    Wont there be any ozone production as well? Or are the activated carbon pods a solution for that problem

    • @LockeLaboratory
      @LockeLaboratory 5 місяців тому

      Yes unfortunately with esp there is always some ozone produced. The activated carbon would absorb some. There could be one pod made from a specific absorbent for ozone which are similarly used in cpap machine cleaners. Other option which I was exploring was to use an electro spray technique which I couldn't get to work as effectively but that could have just been my inability to produce a good setup with optimal parameters.

    For ESP's, what's the key factor for the amount of ozone produced?

    • @LockeLaboratory
      @LockeLaboratory 6 місяців тому

      its the corona that will produce the ozone. From there it is the voltage level how the terminals are designed to produce the amount of corona and the amount of oxygen present to be converted to ozone. I believe the polarity of the voltage has an affect with positive voltage producing less than negative.

    • @minime9400
      @minime9400 6 місяців тому

      @@LockeLaboratory I'm intrigued by this type of air filter and intend to build one to remove solder fumes, but the ozone worries me more than the fumes. When you have worked with this, have you ever felt a certain smell around the apparatus? (It's a very distinct smell)

    • @minime9400
      @minime9400 6 місяців тому

      @@LockeLaboratory Also, can the corona discharge be tuned in order to produce less ozone without making the filter less effective? And kudos for being active 8 years after you published the video 👌

    • @LockeLaboratory
      @LockeLaboratory 6 місяців тому

      @@minime9400 thanks! Yes ozone is a real concern which may negate the practicality of this device for home use. There are some moves to minimize effect of ozone but it will never be zero since corona is also required to ionize incoming gas. In general what increases ESP's filtering power can increase ozone generation rate unless you do something expensive or exotic such as using an oxygenless environment or perhaps converting to electrospray to turn the ESP to a wetscrubber. There are optimal parameters for ESPs and I'm sure there are research papers written on it. In general sharp protrusions increase corona production. Typical design is a wire within a cylindrical tube or wire sandwiched between plates. On the wires are the series of barb protrusions to concentrate the electric field where corona is produced. Yes stopped making new videos since not much time anymore. Hope to find the time again to make more videos while juggling a busy life.

    you might be able to improve the working of this device by also adding in some soap. doing this will reduce the water surface tension, as well as making it more easy for dry and/or hydrophobic particles to get into the water and stay into it.

    No, this is not a good solution. The clip is ugly, flimsy, and occupies the space where the tool should hang. It looks dreadful and messy, not neat. A creative idea, but not a solution. I am sick of the price gouging on flimsy junk that is sold as a retainer clip. You have two solutions: Use hot glue gun to keep retainers glued in place, or build a plywood tool hanging board with custom storage for all tools. No more pegboard! The advantage is, you can build in sections so it is modular and easy to move along with you, or as a folding cabinet - no dust, layers of walls inside for compact storage.

    • @LockeLaboratory

      I would always encourage trying and taking a dive to learn new skills. It can be fun, kind of like building a model. Its kind of like learning how to ski, first time is often lots of failure but by the end of first session you may have already gotten the hang of it. If you have a steady hand and the right equipment, it isn't too bad. The trickiest parts for this kit may be the header connectors that adapt to the arduino as well as the IC chips. I'd recommend also getting a practice soldering kit to try first so your first try isn't spent on the theramin kit you found. You will need tweezers, flux, solder, solder braid, and a temperature controlled soldering iron. Best of luck.
